Winter in the City

What's on in the city

Looking to complete the winter school holidays with some additional activities? Keep an eye on our What’s On Page which will continuously update as we add in the city’s winter inspired workshops and interactive activities and also local markets with fresh seasonal produce. See below for upcoming events that are happening within Canberra’s city centre.

Ice skating in the City

Get your skates on: 1 July - 17 July

Glide through the day and into the evening. The rink is open 10am to 8pm from Sundays to Thursdays, and 10am to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Visitors are required to book in for their skate sessions.

Cafe Après

Cafe Après can be found inside the huge tipi and will be serving warm food and drinks. Cafe Après will sell hot chocolate with marshmallows you can toast on the cafe fires, excellent coffee and winter soups with crusty bread. The cafe is right beside the ice rink, where you can buy tickets for ice skating.

Fire & Ice

Fire and ice will fill Civic Square for the Winter school holidays. A huge fire pit will glow in the centre of Civic Square, and fire barrels for toasting marshmallows will surround the ice rink and Cafe Après. Civic Square will be an ice sculpture garden during Winter in the City. Every weekend, families can see many sculptures that will slowly melt over the week. For the final weekend, the great Ice Sculptor, Glen Smith, will transform huge blocks of ice into symbols of our beautiful city. Glen is performing on Friday (15 July) after work, Saturday (16 July) at midday and Sunday (17 July) at midday.
