Winter in the City

Back to the Boombox Exhibition

Get your feet moving and warm yourself up this winter with CMAG’s quirky exhibition of a private collection of boomboxes, owned by Canberra local, Kinloch Kilby.

Status symbols of cool in the 80s and 90s, the boombox or ‘ghetto blaster’ took music to the streets in a way never before seen, paving the way for the rise of hip hop from the urban underground to mainstream popularity, as well as fostering the technological innovation that made music ever more portable for us all.

Recharge with a house-brewed pot of chai from the CMAG café before you get back into the activities on the square.
